Day 66, 67

Woke up early (6.30, the sun is up at like 4), had brekky and then went on the 7km 'bungle' walk; was pretty cool with an enormous gorge/cavern thing with a pool at the bottom in one part, then the bungles which you walk around an then a final part with a nice view. As the sun is up so early it really starts to get warm quickly so we tried to get that finished early. After the walk we drove back along the 4wd track to the highway and then back to Kununara. Side note, It's really amazing how many new expensive 4wds there are going around; Australia really has a lot of wealth going around. Back in kununara and we payed $4 for a shower at the shell servo station (cheap but a bit grimy, a truck stop so kinda expected). More fuel, food, money on the credit card, an then off towards the Gibb River road. Spent the night at a rest area along the highway. This morning we got up early again and were on the road driving by 7.30. The car by 10am was at 40C which is pretty typical of ea...

Day 67

The sun came up stupidly early and the tent started heating up so we were awake at about 7.30. Drove across the road into the Bungle Bungle NP (no idea what's it's actual name is). The information centre is about 50km into the park along a 4wd track which was good fun. A 4 week national parks pass cost 40 and then camping for one night was $22. $22 for camping, and there's not even a shower? Major rip off. Spent the day doing a 5 km (mini palms gorge) and 2 km (echidna? gorge) walk into the canyons. Both started with a walk along a baking creek bed and then led into a relatively cool canyon. Apparently the walk we have planned tomorrow is the 'amazing' one, these ones were nice but nothing mind blowing.

Day 65, 66

Soo no phone reception eh, kinda sucks. I need my Internet fix. Yesterday saw Christelle and I on the road from Katherine heading to Kununara. There are a few national parks along the way and firstly as I was trying to slow the whole pace of the trip down and secondly as Christelle is very thorough in her desire to see everything we ended up taking most of the walks through them (I know Gregorys NP was one of them, can't remember the others). Id hoped i had stopped the red dust coming into the car but after doing 100km on a bit of dirt the stuff in the back was heavily coated, makes food fun! Camped in a rest area on the side of the road with a few backpackers and lots of grey nomads. One of them was obviously quite deaf as he was watching a DVD at serious levels until 10pm. This morning we did a few more walks, tried to eat all our fruit ala spirit of Tasmania before crossing into WA (they even made me throw out my bobab fruit, picked up 5km from the bord...

Day 64

Didn't do much today, changed hostels to a much nicer place for $6 more. A little further down the road and out of town but much more relaxed. Basically the most I got up to today was moving hostel and watching a movie on the telly. This morning I met up with Christelle (Belgian) and we did the grocery shop, petrol fill up and then we drove to Katherine. Right now we are parked about 150km from Katherine on the side of the road to Kananura. From there we'll head towards the bungle bungles and then onto the Gibbs river road. Also somethings screwed with the radio and it wont pick up any radio stations (...useless). Also it's hot (remember Tasmania idiot), I'm hoping it gets a bit cooler as we head south.

Day 63 (about)

Thanks to Jeanettes kind, yet motivating words, I might be heading to the west coast... Decisions decisions. Right now if I could get someone to come along I probably would head west. Chances are I'll never have this opportunity gain. The rego thing turned out to be a bit more complicated than I'd hoped. The inspector failed my beautiful patrol for a bald tire (fair enough), oil leaks (total bs, very very minor oil leak from the turbo), and a distorted tire (possibly). Easiest course of action, drive to a different state and try again. Spent the rest of the day cleaning out the self storage garage and installing the new cd player. Didn't help that my multimeter is screwed and thinks everything is putting out .4v...So I've just shot off 5 SMS so hopefully I'll have a travel partner some time soon, heading who knows where.

Day 'back from the dead'

I guess I should try and fill in the enormous gap that exists bretween this post and my previous one. I kind of trailed off at the end ther, motivation is a fleeting thing. Basically after my time in kakadu I drove back to Darwin, checked the car into a self storage place ($250 a month) and then flew back to Sydney. After a week in Sydney I was off to south Africa for 2 months for the world cup (have I ever said how hard life is) and so after one back in Sydney after my return flight from south Africa, here I am. Sweating my ass off in Darwin all over again. Anyone expecting some miracle change in the temperature will be sorely dissapointed. So I arrived a 6 pm, caught a taxi to my car and was about to start packing things away when the oil container on the top of the car started leaking all over the place. Not the easiest stuff to clean up. The self storage place closed at 7 so I didn't have time to deal with the oil and...
