Madeira Trip: Day 6 - 8

On Friday we woke up ready for more hiking, so we hit the closest walk to us, the levada-dos-marocos. It was a very easy but nonetheless very enjoyable, hiking along a levada down into a valley. We made the end of the main leg, and started on the second leg that climbs out of the valley, but after a few hundred meteres of vertical gain we gave up. Too hot and humid to be climbing stairs! After that it was back home to try and finish off some of the beers that Yanan had decided we needed (30 beers...). We tried to grab some lunch from the local snack bar but all they were doing was coffee, beer and crisps, so we headed back up the hill to our place, grabbed the car, and drove off to a nearby Churrascaria. We had an awesome meal of grilled meats and drinks for something like 20 euros! We were still keen to see some more sights so we visited the local fruit market (which was not for locals at all), then drove up a winding mountain road to the top of the Pico Ruivo, the tallest ...

Madeira Trip: Day 1 - 5

We had an insanely early​ start to to the morning having to wait and catch an Uber to Victoria train station. We then had to wait about 40 minutes for the bus to take us to Gatwick. By the time we arrived it was 4:30 in the morning. Our flight left at 7 so we had a quick breakfast and some coffee and then boarded the plane. Jack and I both passed out along the four hour journey to funchal, and we landed without a problem even though it is quite a crazy airport to land at. I picked up a higher car, she's a small little white Ford Fiesta and then drove to the east side of the island where we met the owner of the apartment at a petrol station. He didn't look us up some windy road to the house. It is gorgeous with lots of rooms and it's very big lots of big glass windows with an amazing view of her huge Rock and then the water the sea to both sides. We napped until around 3 p.m. and then got up and went and bought some groceries and went to look for dinner. Had some fish ...
