Scotland Trip: Day 1 and 2

Jack only had a half WFH day and I finished at midday so we made it to Gatwick by 3. Flight arrived half an hour early at 5.30 so we grabbed our rental car and were into our bed and breakfast by 6. On first impressions it wasn't amazing behind hey it was cheap. After checking in we headed off for dinner, ending up at The Castle Tavern. The restaurant wasn't open yet but we grabbed a drink downstairs and were then escorted up. Had a very nice meal of Scottish salmon for me and Scottish lamb for Jack overlooking River ness. Even had banoffee pie for dessert!

After that off to the airport again to meet edds whose flight was delayed. We drove straight back into town and had a few drinks at Encore. After a quick maccas run we were home by midnight. Pity the shower didn't work properly - either hot or cold, there was no soap, and we could hear two TVs from the room above us... We fell asleep eventually.
The next day up around 7.30 with a cooked breakfast, then set off to see if we could hunt down Nessie at Loch Ness.

It was snowing pretty heavily at this point and the Loch Ness visitor centre only opened at 10 so we kicked on to Eilean Donan.

The scenery we were passing through was epic - snow dusting the autumn colours of the forests, dark metal grey lochs filled with brown seaweed and heavy overcast sky's. What you imagine of Scotland.

From there we made our way to The Caledonian Cafe for lunch.

We were running out of daylight hours and we wanted to go for a quick hike so we wolfed down our burgers and fish and chips, grabbed a coffee, then zooomed to The Storr. We arrived at 2.30 and the sun was meant to set at 3.53 so we got a move on up that mountain. We made it to near the top in good time even though it was damn slippery with all the snow and ice. Amazing views so a good move on choosing to do it.

On the way down we had a bit more time so we engaged on a running snow ball fight. Much wet clothing involved but great fun. There were quite a few groups heading up at around 3.30 - we warned some of them that the sun was setting soon but they didn't seem bothered... and they were never heard from again.
After that we zoomed back to Potree, hoping to visit a distillery but alas, most were closed due to the low season, and the only we could find that was listed as open turned out to be some guy doing homebrew...
So we gave up on that and drove to Sligachan Hotel and checked in. There doesn't appear to be that much to do around here but we will venture out to see what we can find.
