Norway Trip: Day 3

We woke up to rubbish weather, rain and very low cloud which was a pity because we had the Nærøyfjord cruise booked for 9.30. We had some fried eggs for breakfast in the hostel kitchen, then drove over to the pier and parked the car. We wanted to change the time of our booking to either later in the day or possibly the next day to try and get some better weather. Alas, as the girl at the counter explained, the terms and conditions clearly stated we needed to change the time of the ticket the day before... Pity those t&c were not visible or mentioned when we booked, but whatever. Jackie got pissed but what could we do.
We waited in the mall along with everyone else and then commenced a mad rush to push our way onto the boat. After grabbing some seats we were lucky enough to find ourselves situated next to some Indo or Philo dudes who proceeded to strike model poses against the ships windows which their friends duly captured in photograph, and who then started to serenade each other with songs. It was proper annoying.
The cruise was let down by the shit weather as we couldn't really see how high the mountains were, but enjoyable not the less.

After the cruise a bus took us back to Flam, where we shared a pizza for lunch and then set off for Vøringfossen, which is a waterfall high up in a valley. Along the way we passed through a 5km tunnel which ends at a roundabout underground, which joins other long tunnels which i quite weird to experience. As it's the easter long weekend all the shops have been closed so when we saw a grocery store open doing some limited trading we also stopped and grabbed some supplies. Another attraction was the Hardanger Bridge which is very striking in it glacier cut fjord. What we didn't realise was this bridge was 150NOK to cross each way, and we were crossing it three times, so about $70 aud just in tolls... Ouch. There's goes our dinner money. We stopped on the other side after crossing over and took some photos, then continued on towards our destination.

More tunnels and then a very steep climb up out of the fjord onto the top plateu. The top was covered in snow and we had a bit of trouble finding the actual lookout but finally made it - was an amazing view.

After that it was back down to the fjord, stopping in Eidfjord for dinner of....
BBQ! We had bought a disposable BBQ and some hotdogs and corn, and after finding a secluded spot we fired it up and had dinner.

Straight to our hotel after that as it was already approaching 8pm. We had quite the view and some very friendly Romanian hosts who wouldn't stop talking, even if the room was a bit shabby.

We watched a movie and then fell asleep even though by 10pm the sky was still light.
