Verona Trip: Day 1 & 2

Well it was a bit of f#kd up morning getting here. Firstly the national express bus we had booked for 4am failed to arrive. We waited until around 4.50 and then decided to uber it instead. There was one other poor soul there waiting for the bus, an Estonian software engineer returning to Tallin, so he joined us in the uber and split the cost with us.
Next problem was at the airport where our pilot failed to turn up... ended up waiting an extra thirty minutes but he eventually arrived.
We landed in Verona at 11am and caught the bus to the centre of town, walked past the Colosseum and into our hotel. Quite fancy!
We weren't able to check into our room until 2 so we headed out for some pizza at Corte Farina Ristorante Pizzeria - it was delicious! Coffee was disappointing though :(

After lunch we went back to the hotel and had a nap, only waking up at around 5.30. We needed some bottled water so went for a walk to a supermarket, then came back and dropped the groceries off. Jackie had seen a nice wine bar on our walk in the afternoon, Osteria la Mandorla so we walked over to it. I had a nice glass of red and Jackie had a sweet white, and we also grabbed some local small plates of food.

We were on the hunt for some gelato. Having scoped some good ones out online we set off but alas it was too late in the evening and they were all shut. We instead got some takeaway pizza. That was it for the day.
We got up around 8am and headed downstairs for brekky. The hotel buffet included unlimited barista made coffee!! Joy.
Straight after breakfast it was out to the colloseum where we purchased a 'Verona Card' for €22 which covers most of the attractions. The colloseum is pretty cool, and was built before the Roman colloseum, inspiring some of its elements.

From there it was to Juliet's balcony for some cliche photos, then to the Torre dei Lamberti for the long climb up the tower.

We also had a look around the Palazzo Forti - Galleria D'Arte Moderna. Next to it was across the river to the Roman ampitheathre .

After spending a while getting museum overload we walked down and crossed the river at the famous Ponte Pietra bridge.
Hungry for more we resumed the gelato search, but a lot of places are closed (presumably for winter??) so we ended up at
Alcova Di Là. The gelato was delicious, I had chocolate and Jackie had mango, however we got ripped on prices - €4 euro for a latte, while Jackie's tart that she ordered went from €1.50 to €2.50 somehow. Not impressed.
It's was 2pm already and most places were closing for the afternoon break so we decided to skip lunch and hold out for dinner.
We are back at the hotel now resting our feet before the next escapade, where we are aiming for pasta and more sightseeing.
