So it's been almost 5 weeks since the last update. Where to begin?
We've been going through some highs and lows with the apartment, as the agent is really dishonest. So while we really love living at the place, having to deal with the agents is hell e.g. furniture they haven't provided even though they said they would, internet (which we STILL don't have!) and them constantly texting us about how the apartment is 'untidy' for viewings even though it is tidy! Rahhhh
But I digress...
I got a 1 month contract working at an ecommerce company until Sept 1. It's a really nice office, and the people are great - the only problem is the company sells knitting supplies and I have to write about yarn and needles and I have NO IDEA how to make that sound appealing haahah so a bit of a learning curve.
We've also been very lucky with weather - it's been AMAZING. The last 6-7 weeks have been warm and sunny, plus Laura and Jonno gave us their bikes, so it's been really nice to ride around London. That said, Ryan is enjoying the bike riding more than I am, as I am not very confident on it. We did our first real night ride together last night and it was more stressful than fun.
Ryan's now working full time as a barista and really loving life. He basically only works half the day and spends the other half exploring London on his bike OR tending to his plants on the balcony. And then most days he's working the afternoon shift til 7.30 so he comes home to a cooked dinner too! Lucky bastard.
In terms of socialising, we've met up with Yanan and Victor several times, Ray and Sel came to visit from Paris, and we're going to Barcelona next week to meet up with Ray, Sel, Elsa and Carlos. Also met up with Coco a few times and went with her to Laura's art workshop for photogramming at Tower Bridge which was fun.
So far we're really enjoying London. It's not like Sydney where you have very clear lines between the city and suburbia. Everything is intermingled, so you could just walk 1km and see a billion things, like houses, then an open air market, a park and then suddenly some famous landmark. Last week we went to the flower markets 10 minutes from our place and were so amazed and felt so lucky to live so close to these kinds of things. The whole street was just stalls full of every flower imaginable and the flowers were gorgeous! We couldn't stop taking photos. Ryan was so excited he made a mental list of all the plants he'd buy with his Barista tips.
Most recently, Ryan's bike seat fell off after a bolt snapped and he had to ride standing up all the way home. Theres no Bunnings equivalent here so after going to heaps of bike shops he luckily found a shop that sold the right size bolt. The pedals also broke, so he's been on Amazon buying lots of replacements and bike additions like lights, mud flaps etc.
Last week we went to Jonnos house for lunch and Elspeth and John were there too. It was nice to catch up, and hear how Andy and Greg are doing.
Will update in another few weeks.
