So first two weeks in...and we are reeling from the prices. Everything is super exxy, only things that are reasonable are groceries.
But we have achieved some things. After checking out three other places we settled on the first one we had seen in Whitechapel. It's a bit of a grungy area but close to the centre of town, there's a Saintsbury around the corner, and Whitechapel station a few minutes walk away. We are sceptical of the dodgy real estate agent. He promised us furniture this week which I doubt we will see, and the internet is not going to be connected till the end of the month. But let's see how things pan out. The other bad thing about where we are living is the light opposite our window, which burns all the time, and is super bright. Two calls to the serviced apartments people who own it has not achieved anything.
We managed to get a bank account with Halifax bank after trying at Barclay's. This is a major achievement as it means we have proof of address, so we could also join the library! Free internet and books! We also found out about £1 entry to the tower of London for people of our deprived neighbourhood! Winning. We did that today which was fun.
I have got a "shadow" session with cafe Nero tomorrow ..not exactly what I was after with the cafe job as I wanted an independent cafe, but maybe it w YUill lead somewhere. The girl on the phone said pay was £6 which is below minimum wage, so we will see where that ends up. Jackie is still working on landing a gig.
We also saw eddie and Jennah for the Euros semi and final last week which was fun. And we are planning to go see Govich on Monday in Brighton!
We made a pact today to make sure we don't slip into old ways of coming home from work and eating dinner. Need to force ourselves out at every opportunity. It's hard though when it's so expensive and we have no income.
