Europe Trip Day 68: Still Hot

It was the first day I didn't wake up running to the toilet so a good start. We did wake up early though, in order to get a head start on the heat as yesterday's heat (37 degrees) was simply unbearable. So quick breakfast and we were out the door to see the Petrovaradin Fortress.

Found a new boyfriend on the way

It was a 15-20 minute walk and while the first half was pleasant, by the time we got to the Fortress it was scorching hot (30 degrees) we had to find a tree to hide under.

The Fortress was pretty cool though, you can see the Danube and the bridges stretching back to the city centre. Every top/roof is covered in grass too so its kind of cute, plus there are numerous interesting/cool sculptures scattered throughout the Fortress gardens.

After a walk around and a few pics, we sat at one of the cafes for a coffee break to admire the view, also to escape the heat.

Then we walked the 15m to the Novi Sad Museum to learn about the history of the Fortress. There were also lots of weapons from WWI and archaeological finds, but Ryan and I quickly got bored as the info boards were written like essays. Our attention perked up as we went to see the very deep well in the museum. They let you peer into it and boy was it deep.

Funnily another exhibit was dedicated to technology and we saw floppy disks in there, making me feel very old.

As we left the fortress we saw a bakery/sandwich shop so we sat down for a sanga and had a slice of plazma cake (based on the popular local biscuit) which literally tasted like cookie dough.

Then caught the bus back to town where we dropped by a massage place to find there were no free spots (sad face). As we walked back home, my stomach started going crazy again and we rushed into a pub asking for the toilet. My face must have looked desperate because the guy promptly directed me.

Stopped to take a pic with the famous cathedral in Liberty Square

The heat had really picked up so we took a breather back at the apartment for 1 hour or so, before heading back out. We walked 30 minutes through the university to the beach which turned out to be a 'Beach Resort' where you have to pay 50 dinar to enter. Upon entry we were met with pumping music, bars/cafes, and many many many young men and women in their swimmers who were smoking, drinking, frolicking in the sand, swimming in the dirty Danube water, and generally having a good ol' trashy time.

We didn't have our swimmers so unfortunately couldn't join, but settled for a nice ice block and coffee instead. I think if we were 18 we'd be pretty psyched about finding this place.
Anyway it really was super hot so we left around 5.30 to get some takeaway (Chinese food because I was craving it) and caught the bus home. Watched a funny movie then bed.
