Europe Trip Day 65: Belgrade Operati

We had a really nice breakfast at a cafe (which we don't usually do), with one of the first good coffees in months!

After brekky we went on a free walking tour. It wasn't as good as the one in Tirana - this was more of a history lesson/facts/some cool places to drink. Thinking about it, what you want with one of these tours is anecdotal and interesting, as opposed to facts. The guide studied tourism, and what we've found is the guides that have done that are good at reciting facts, but not as good at making an interesting tour.

After the tour we walked around a little bit more, grabbed some sandwiches for lunch, and then retired to our room for an hour to let our feet heal and to cool off.
After that we walked to some buildings that were destroyed by NATO bombing in '99. They haven't been repaired, which our guide mentioned was less down to money and more down to politics. Was quite a site seeing these shells of buildings half blown away.

It rained a bit while we were walking and damn it was hot after that as the humidity jumped right up. We walked back to downtown and grabbed an icecream, then walked over to the opera house to get two tickets to Lucia Di Lammermoor. They had a range of tickets, the most exxy being about 12AUD! We went for the exxy ones.
After a early dinner we were at the theatre at 7. We went inside hoping for English subtitles but alas, the only options were in Yugoslavian cyrilic or Latin. But we still enjoyed it with some great voices.
