After our epic journey yesterday we slept in, only waking up at 9am. We were meant to be checking out at 10am, but instead decided that we would extend the booking for an extra day. We both wanted to climb the old fortress walls that are up on the hill behind the old town, so the extra day would allow us to mend our aching muscles and also do this.
We set off to climb the walls at around 10am after paying for our extra night, but only got a few metres up before deciding there were too many other people climbing with us, and it was too hot. We planned to instead return in the late evening to do it. Later we saw three giant cruise ships in the bay, which explained why there were so many tourists bumbling around.
Without much else planned we headed to the bus station to catch a local bus to Herceg Novi, which lies near the mouth of the bay of Kotor. We thought it might be a nice place to visit given its location. We caught a local bus, which was great as the road it followed tracked the south side of the bay, giving us a great view of all the little houses and boats moored along the way. We ended up getting off at a place called Porto Montenegro, in the town of Tivat, as we thought you could catch a ferry from there to cross the bay, but it turned out we were wrong, and there was no ferry. It also turns out that Porto Montenegro is a luxury port development, catering to the mega rich and their super yachts. It was pretty cool wandering among the beautiful, huge boats, each being cleaned by many deckhands.

Smaller toys and expensive shops for the rich

One of the yachts for example is the 'Golden Odyssey', owned by the prince of Saudi Arabia. It is part of the Golden Fleet, three super yachts which cruise around together as the princes play things. One of the yachts is purely used as a transport ship for small boats and a sea plane... So obviously Jackie and I were in the wrong place. We had lunch at a cafe, then walked to the local bus station hoping for a bus back home. Unfortunately we had just missed it so had an hour to wait. As it smelt like poo where we were sitting we decided to walk down the road in search of the next bus stop. Eventually we found it, as well as an insistent taxi driver and two other people also going back to Kotor. We combined forces to drive back to Kotor the express way in a taxi.
We went back to the hotel as it was getting really hot in the sun, chilling out till around 6pm. We set off up hill but damn it was still hot. We made it up to the very top in 45 minutes, enjoying the view as we went which was only spoilt by the fact two of the giant cruise ships were still in the bay. The previous evenings all the ships had departed by around 5pm, so it was just bad luck that there were so many today and they hung around for so long.

After the trek to the top and the descent to the bottom we were feeling quite depleted, so we headed out for dinner. We picked the place I went last night, which Jackie missed as she was back at the hotel recuperating. It was another great day, now followed by a great meal, washed down by a cold beer for me and a cold juice for Jackie.
