After two days we finally made it to Theth! We stayed the night in Boge last night. In the morning our alarm didn't go off at 7 but luckily the owner of the guesthouse woke us up and gave us brekky.
The local jeep came at 8.30 so we waited by the cafe. When it came it was like a circus show where they fit 50 clowns in a mini cooper! About 15 people piled out of this jeep defender and Ryan and my mouth just dropped. How were they going to fit the two of us in there?!
They told us to hop in and turns out one guy had to sit on the roof where all the bags were. Pretty dangerous given we were about to go up into the mountains where the roads are crazy. But the locals didn't seem to care so we trundled along for 2 hours up the mountain all the way to Theth, the whole time squished in with a dude with a wooden leg, bad body odour from the other 14 people, raucous chatter between the passengers, and a big rocky drop off just a few centimetres to the right.
Upon arrival we walked to our hotel and while we were waiting for our room, who do we see walking right towards us but the crazy German lady!!!!! Noooooooo I literally wanted to run away, and Ryan told me later he was laughing so hard inside, because wtf!? What are the chances this crazy lady keeps bumping into us!!!????? Anyway we had to chat to her and luckily our room was ready so we had an excuse to leave. Its even funnier because we met this other woman and she agreed the German lady was hyper.
Afterwards we walked to the Grunas waterfall which took about 90 minutes, and we had a quick dip in the icy waters. The walk was pretty steep and stressful going downhill, but the views here are totally worth it. We saw some amazing mountains (that literally look like watercolor paintings) and beautiful stone houses set among fields of daisies.
By the time we walked back it was around 4pm so we chilled out in our room, then went downstairs for dinner at 8. The only thing we're annoyed about here is that its super expensive compared to the rest of Albania. The locals know you have no other choice so they double or triple the price of everything. But also from what we've heard, Theth is actually known locally as a rather posh/luxury getaway, so this may be why. Either way, it is once in a lifetime so best to just enjoy it :)
