The day started off with a hearty breakfast. I always enjoy seeing what they give us for brekky at a new hotel and this one didn't disappoint with eggs, cheeses, bread, fruit, jam, cookies and coffee/tea.
We had to catch the morning bus to Bogove so we got to the bus stop around 9.15am, but alas I'd misread the timetable (the bus left at 9am eeeek) and we missed the bus. Ryan was not impressed.
Anyway, there was another bus which left at 11am so we hopped on the local bus to go to the terminal to make sure we wouldn't miss the next one. Well what do you know, turns out there's 2 bus terminals and we went to the wrong one. Luckily we were 1.5hr early, so we went back on the local bus to the right one.
A quick coffee and we were on our way to Bogove. The roads there were crazy, winding left and right, following the curves of the mountains, and with only a tiny space between the car and the huge drop off (ok maybe I'm exaggerating - but it was all Ryan and I could think about as we looked down the precipice!)
I was pretty proud of myself though because I whipped out some Italian to ask the driver what time the return bus was and he told me 3pm. So we didn't have much time when we got to Bogove to walk to the waterfall.
We found this out later looking on google maps, but there is a road which goes up the valley and back down directly to where the waterfall is. Unfortunately, Ryan and I went the wrong way, going down (instead of up) along the river. We walked for maybe 20 minutes and reached a fish farm next to the river. It was a dead end, but we could see another path on the other side of the bank, so we took our shoes off and crossed the flowing river which would have been fine, but it was ICE COLD. Literally about 2 seconds in, our feet were hurting like crazy making it a real mental battle to get to the other side, which was really just a 3 metre walk. We kept going, and reached another dead end, but ahhhh of course we can see a path on the other side!!! Great, so crossing the river again, feet enduring pain while carefully feeling the river bed for good rocks to walk on. We got to our third dead end/river crossing and Ryan made it over but I couldn't do it. It was deep and sooooooo icy. So I sat on the rock while Ryan walked further to see where the hell this waterfall was. By this time we'd been walking for a while, so were quite concerned we wouldn't be back in time for the return bus.
Ryan came back having seen nothing other than deeper pools, so we decided to just swim where we were. Ryan took the first dip and he was yelping like a madman because it was so icy (he was also stark naked!). He even dunked his head in which was kind of hilarious to watch. I went in to my neck, it was so icy though, so max stayed in maybe 3-5 seconds before my feet were screaming in pain and I scrambled out like gollum. Luckily the day was so sunny (28 degrees) so we dried off nicely just sitting next to the river.
Of course the walk back was the annoying part, having to cross the river again. Also I stupidly copied Ryan by keeping my thongs on as I walked across and my thong broke free and rushed down the river. I'm yelling 'NOoooOoO MY THONG!!!' so Ryan immediately gets into action and runs down the hill along the river at lightning speed to catch my thong. I find him a few minutes later holding my thong and with a cut on his hand. Turns out as he ran down to the river he slipped on the gravel on this really steep hill and a rock cut his thumb >< he is my hero.
It was a pretty fun adventure today, even if we didn't get to the waterfall, and I supposed we took the road less travelled because we went the wrong way, ha!
