We'd booked a 7.30pm flight to Corfu so we had a day to burn, which meant sleeping in, having a nice lazy breakfast and checking out at midday.
There is a huge outlet mall that's close to the airport and we thought that's probably a good place to spend the rest of the day until we need to leave, so we caught the metro to Hilal station. And then we had to change to the Izban but we didn't have enough small change! I waited with the bags while Ryan walked back out to try and break the notes - ended up almost walking back to the hotel because the first water vendor wouldn't give change. After about 30 minutes, Ryan returned with a bag of water and food and the change, but then went to the machine for the tickets and the ticket machine wouldn't print the tickets!!!!! So the station staff ended up escorting us to the platform.
It took about 15 minutes to get to the station where the outlet is, and as we walked out we saw a humongous orange building with the name Optimum Outlets and lots of people streaming in and out.
First thing we tried to do was look for a locker, went to the info desk and had to use google translate to ask if there were lockers, but she said there weren't any, so we were stuck with our bags.
Ended up getting some lunch at the food court before sitting at a cafe and taking turns to go walk around the shops. There was nothing particularly cheap, and I liked a few clothes but the thought of carrying them as I travel turned me off. My bag is already too heavy.
After a coffee and (secret) waffle we went back on the Izban to the (deadly quiet - no one works on Sundays) airport and flew to Athens where we had a little freak out because the transfer was not within the inside terminal, so we had to exit then go through baggage checks again. And also we were worried our luggage wasn't going straight to Corfu so had to run by the baggage tracking desk to check.
Luckily we got to the gate 10 minutes before boarding and flew into Corfu around 10.30pm.
Taxis at the airport are pretty scammy, and we paid 15€ for one to our hotel, which the receptionist said was wayyy too much. He said it should have been 8-10€ so we were a little annoyed, also because the hotel was supposed to have a service to organise one for us. Anyway, we were shown our room and all the bad feelings subsided because the room was huge! It was a one bedroom apartment and it had the most comfy bed, huge bathroom, plus a couch and TV. So after a bit of TV and burger king eating (that we'd bought in turkey) we passed out immediately
