Not much to report today. We walked to the Clock Tower in the morning, which was a fairly disappointing site. From there we walked through the Kemeralti markets, then passed the Agora Open Air Museum (40tl for more rubble so didn't go in), then caught the metro to a shopping area.
We spent around 2 hrs there, me sitting on a bench while Jackie browsed. In the end we didn't buy anything but at least we were out of the hotel room which we spent too much time in.
We caught the tube back to the hotel station but decided to stay on it till it terminated to see where it wound up. Unfortunately it just stayed underground so we didn't even see anything.
We went back to the hotel and had a nap, then went out for a walk through the park and some dinner. To give you an idea of how relaxed our days are, we are only eating two meals a day. Usually breakfast and lunch, then we skip dinner. Today Jackie had lunch but no dinner, while I had no lunch but dinner.
While at the park we visited 'lunapark, a rather rundown amazement park. We heard some chanting and rather stupidly decided to follow our ears. There was some kind of stadium filled with chanting people, with lots of Turkish flags and some kind of wolf memorabilia for sale. We tried to ask random people what is was about and they said concert, or alternatively party for cult?
Anyways Jackie spent 15 minutes back at the hotel googling and it turns out to be the paramilitary arm of the nationalist party, the Grey wolves :0
Fun reading of what we were strolling through https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_Wolves_(organization). Also as we walked back to the hotel there were droves of cars transporting all these people to the venue, and every car had people hanging out the windows holding up their fingers in the wolf sign or holding their flag.
Izmir so far, very average. Would not visit again.
As an aside, Jackie is also getting stared down wherever we go by all the men, doesn't feel particularly nice. We think because not many tourists come to the city. The city is also quite ugly, not many trees, very dusty and dirty which is surprising for a city by the sea.
