It was our first full day in Kas and we were hoping we could hop on a boat to Kekova for a full day of swimming and snorkelling. So after a quick breakfast we headed down to the wharf at 9.30am and asked if any boats were going. Unfortunately we're here at the start of the season so there's very few tourists, meaning no boats were going out to Kekova as they need minimum of 8 people.
> So after chatting to a few tour agencies about other possible things to do, we decided to hire a scooter for the day I stead and go exploring.
> It only cost us 50TL to hire a scooter for the whole day, and after Ryan had a quick practice at the front of the rental shop, we were off.
> Of course, I was scared out of my mind as I've never been on one and the streets around Kas are extremely steep, so every time we went downhill I was worried we'd go skidding down. And every time we went uphill I would we worried about the inevitable downhill that would come soon enough!! Luckily Ryan has some big pectorals I could hold on to and squeeze when I got super stressed!
> Anyway, first we drove to the peninsula to see what was there. Mainly hotels/resorts, but there were also some fantastic views and we even saw a turtle. We gave it a little help as it was stuck on the road, so Ryan picked it up and put it back in the grass.
> Next we headed to a tiny beach we'd passed earlier and skipped a handful of stones.
> We weren't hungry yet so we decided to keep going west, but the road turned onto the highway and next thing we knew we were on the highway. Ryan and I both weren't very comfortable with being on the highway as we didn't have any protective gear on (except for helmets) and we were doing 60km/h on some windy roads with cars overtaking us and trucks coming in the opposite direction - let's just say we became very aware of our mortality!
> So after about 15 minutes of being on the highway (with bugs hitting our face and the chilly wind lashing through our clothes) we decided to go back to Kas.
> We knew there were a few famous beaches to the east of Kas, so we drove over to big pebble beach for lunch (meatballs, cheeseburger, lemon crepe) and they drove to the Lycian tombs for a quick look.
> The drive was getting a little too stressful for me as the hills were getting ridiculously steep (and at one stage two stray dogs thought it would be fun to start barking and chasing us! We sped up when we noticed and then we hit a dead end. I was yelling 'Hurry! Turn back! The dogs are coming!'. Sure enough the dogs were waiting for us and chased us down the hill - the whole ordeal was really crazy) , so we took a breather at the hotel before returning the scooter and going for a swim.
> Both Ryan and I felt a little sick after our swim. Perhaps a mixture of dehydration, and being too cold when we were in the pool, so we had a little lie down before heading out to dinner.
> We decided we would stay in Kas a couple more days until the weather is better so that we can do the blue cruise which will take us from Demre to Fethiye, so after dinner we booked it and now in bed ready to sleep.
