We had another day of commute (roughly) organised. We had breakfast seated outside underneath the trees, then packed our bags and caught a dolmos (bus) up the hill out of the valley, costing 20 lira for the both of us. We then waited by the roadside for a local bus. These buses service the local towns on kind of intericty routes, so for example one will go from Antalya to all the towns along a certain direction. They don't actually go into town unless it's a major one, just stopping at the turn off. There are no set pickup points, so you can get on and off where you please. If you are traveling to somewhere that's a bit further away than on the local bus route, you need to somehow cobble together the next leg of the journey so that it starts where your first leg ends. We waited by the highway hoping for a bus going to Kas, our next destination, but they didn't seem to be going that far. We asked one of the ones that stopped for us for Kas, and they said something in Turkish, but motioned for us to get on -
ed: I'm writing this on the bus to Fenike when Jackie turns to me and says, do you have the passports? No I don't, I thought you had them ... I then remember where they are, in the draws in our hotel back in Cirali...so right now we are waiting for a taxi to take us back to Cirali then we will come back to Fenike and then on to Kas. It's funny because we were saying how easy the travel has been so far...jinxed us. More on this later.
So the bus driver asked a friend to tell us that he would take us to Fenike, where we would get on another bus to take us to Kas. It was nearing the Fenike stop where we realised we had left our passports back at the hotel. We walked from the bus station to try and find a rent a car but they were all closed because it was Sunday. We asked the taxi drivers how much to go to Cirali and then return back to Fenike and they quoted 200 lira - 100aud. Way too much. We were walking along the street trying to find a rentacar place that was open when and old man asked us where we were from, where we were going etc. He said he studied English at uni and would help us out of the benevolence of his own heart , asking only 400 lira!!!! We eventually reached a price of 140 lira. So back we drove, got our passports, and then he drove us back to Fenike. We had lunch before boarding our next bus onwards to Kas. This tool about 3 hrs, winding along the coastline with some amazing scenery. Cerulean blue waters with white rocky shores. We arrived in Kas at around 3.30 and checked into our hotel, followed by a swim in the hotel pool. After that out for dinner, enjoying the sun setting over the med. We tried to book a snorkelling tour but the boats are apparently not going out as the season is too quiet :( They take you to Kesova, the sunken city which sounds amazing (http://www.bougainville-turkey.com/kekova-boat-tour/). We will be at the marina at 9.30am tomorrow to see if any of the boats are going out with enough people.
Pics are of the hotel in Kas.
