Europe Trip Day 18: Cirali

Although we had only spent a few hours in Kemer last night we decided it wasn't our kind of place, what with the handbag shops, bars and expensive restaurants. We decided instead to make a move on to another town called Cirali, which from Google maps didn't look as developed. It's considered part of Kemer, but is a bit further south. Before we left Kemer proper we wanted to at least see a tiny bit of it, so we walked over to the famous moonlight beach. On our walk over we found a go kart circuit in a parking lot, so in order to settle once and for all who is the better driver, I challenged Jackie to 10 laps. Let's just say the better man won.
We made it to Moonlight beach which is beautiful, but also horribly touristic with hundreds of deck chairs crowding the beach. We spotted some people drinking beers already at 11am, confirming that Kemer was not to be.
We went back to the hotel and picked up our bags and tried to find a bus to Cirlali. Turns out this was no mean feat, and taxis were quoting us 90 Aud for the trip...
After wandering around for a while we caught one bus which took us to the highway near town. From there we hailed another bus to take us to the Cirali offramp, then got off and joined a local dodgy taxi driver for the 7km trip to town. It took about an hour and a half and ended up costing us about 25 AUD total, which is more than usual in Turkey but still reasonable.
The taxi driver wouldn't drop us at our hotel without an additional payment so we got out and walked. We ended up staying at a different place than we orignally planned as the walk was too far. At the new one we tied to bargain the price down but due to language barriers, pretty much settled in the advertised rate.
After checking in we walked down to the beach. It's a beautiful but pebbly beach, situated to the north of the ruins of the ancient town of Olympus. We spent the test of the day there, then headed back to our apartment for a shower. A late night dinner at a local restaurant was delicious - sea bass, chicken stew, stuffed peppers, eggplant and artichoke, as well freshly baked Turkish bread and some drinks. All for 20 AUD.
