Day 5
Jimmy got in late last night. So we had a prior catch up when we all woke up. First stop we walked over to the beach for breakfast at a restaurant called Manta Ray. It was a pretty classy place, and we could see it was only a hangout for rich Jewish people. It was great food though and we ordered a traditional Israeli breakfast dish, which was eggs in tomato sauce in a pan, kind of like the Spanish one. Also got French toast, roasted peppers with feta, and ceviche.
Afterwards we walked around the Old Jaffa part of town and then 30 minutes to another area which was a hip and expensive suburb. Sat down for a drink as it was really hot, and chilled out for a while. We decided we should probably do something so we walked a long way to the Tel Aviv Museum that's located in the city centre. We didn't realise there was a contemporary part and a classical part, so spent much of our time being bored in the contemporary exhibits, before getting to the Monet's, Picasso's and Van Gogh's and pretty much whizzing past them.
Pretty dead by then so we headed back to our Airbnb and Jimmy went out to dinner with his friends and Ryan and I made a salad for dinner. Passed out by 9.30 because it was such a hot day.
Day 6
Left at 8am to visit a bakery Jimmy wanted to go to. Took us an hour, then walled over to get our rental car and headed for Jerusalem. It only took us 70 minutes to get there and we walked up to Jaffa Gate to begin our tour of the old city. First stop was the church of the holy sepulchre, where Jesus was whipped and buried. Lots of pilgrims were losing their minds over the rock which he apparently laid on, and were rubbing their souvenirs and tissues on there to bless them and rubbing the walls and putting candles in the shrine.
It was insanely hot so we stopped for a quick hummus and drink break
We wanted to go to the dome of the rock but it was closed to non Muslims that day, so we headed to the western wall where more people were losing their minds rubbing their body on the wall and refusing to walk away from it with their back to it.
We took another break went we got outside and we bumped into Jimmy's friends so we waited for them to do the wall before all going to get a drink.
It was simply too hot by that time so we decided to go to the Makhane Yehuda Markets instead. The markets were lively, with little bars tucked within the stalls selling nuts, spices, fruit and baked good. Ryan got a box of loquats and I got a few pastries.
Afterwards we had dinner at a place called Azura and it served really delicious Israeli food. We entrusted the waiter to order for us and we got some great soups, meat dishes and obviously hummus with bread.
We'd had a long day so it was back home for us. But when we got back Jimmy went out by himself for more dinner. Ryan and I passed out.
