We managed to wake up at a decent time, 7.30, after doubling up on the alarms. Had breaky and made some sandwiches, then down to the hotel lobby to pick up our tickets. The hotel provides discounted tickets in return for us watching their timeshare sales pitch tomorrow morning for an hour and a half, saving around $130. Not sure if and hour and a half of mind pain is worth it but we'll find out tomorrow.
So after picking up the tickets we drove the 15 mins to Universal Studios and parked the car ($15 for the day). The park only opens at 9 and we arrived around 9.15 so we thought/hoped the park wouldn't be too busy. We made our way straight to Harry Potter land and boarded the Harry Potter express (not sure what its actually called) after waiting around 15 minutes.
It was amazing. I wasn't expecting much but the whole sensory experience was mesmerising. The ride has areas where a full rap around screen covers your entire field of view; the visuals mixed the movement of the cart are amazingly convincing in fooling your senses... I felt like I was on the broomstick.
Hopped on the harry potter roll coaster which was good and then started working our way through the rides. It turns out that we did beat the rush with only a 15 minute wait for the harry potter area; our longest wait for the rest of the rides was around an hour thirty with the average probably 45 to an hour. I thought the constant waiting was just too much to really enjoy the day.
By 5 pm we had ridden all the major rides with standouts being the harry potter one, the hulk and dudley do right (a water based one where you get soaked).
Returned home to do some laundry, then out for steak at Black Angus Steak House. Was a decent feed but when the bill came there was a pre added Gratuity. Now I can understand tipping because the minimum wage is so low, but a forced gratuity is just a cost that isn't advertised in the price of the food. Anyways, its off to bed now knowing that tomorrow morning we have to sit through some early morning brainwashing...
