After a 13 hour flight from Sydney to Los Angeles, Ryan and I found ourselves in an extremely poorly signed and confusing airport, LAX. Lines through customs was long and Ryan had a rather unfriendly customs officer who tried to confuse him during the fingerprint process. It was then a 30-minute journey (bus, walk, ask for help, walk more) for us to locate the right bus stop. HOWEVER we did make it to our hotel eventually so that's a win! We dropped off our bags and went off to look for a sim card. As we strolled along the main boulevard we started to get more and more suspicious about whether the neighbourhood was safe or whether we were just being paranoid. This was mainly due to the fact that the entire neighbourhood featured run down shops with people to match. But after a long walk we felt an immense culture shock as there suddenly appeared a humongous arcade with each store spanning the size of five Big W's! There was a Home Depot, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and cheap clothing stores with designer brands kind of like an outlet. We also realised that people in this part of town must love fast food (especially burgers) because that was basically all we could see in terms of restaurants PLUS the entire neighbourhood itself smelt like fried chicken. Started to get really tired so just bought some food from a massive Food 4 Less and bussed it back to the hotel. However, not before Ryan went to the barber and got haircut! We thought, why not? It was only $8 but Ryan tipped $4 on top - what a high roller, right?
When we got back to the hotel we wanted to have a shower but halfway through Ryan's shower the water stopped! Turns out the water was being cut off for 90 minutes for maintenance. Waited a while and tried again but then there was no hot water. Ended up lying in bed and fell asleep. Set alarm for an hour, but we were so tired we slept through it and slept for 2.5 hours. Decided to go have dinner before it got dark. Found a cute El Salvadorian restaurant to eat at down the road. Now back at hotel waiting for Game of Thrones to air on HBO - winter is coming!
