Our final morning in San Francisco was spent filling our tummies with brekky and slowly packing our suitcases before checking out at 11am. We then met up for lunch with Ryan's friend Jimmy at a Thai place close by. Spent a good hour there before Jimmy took us to this super hippy coffee joint which was in a converted parking lot. The baristas used some kind of fancy technique and filter machine to make the coffee. All the customers were hippies too, dudes with stylish hair (long and curly on top, short around the sides), guys with medium to tiny dogs, girls with vintage clothing.
After coffee we grabbed our suitcases and headed to the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transport) which is basically a train, and caught it to the international airport. Boarded on our 5 hour flight to Orlando and were annoyed to discover that nothing, except for drinks, were included on the flight. So we all had individual TV screens but you had to swipe your card to watch, and food cost extra despite it being a flight right in the middle of dinner time. Observed that there were lots of fatties on the plane. Once the plane had landed we got up to get our belongings and a girl in the row in front of us turned to Ryan and told him she liked his shirt. Ryan, rather blindsided by the forwardness of this girl, said "what?" So she repeated in her american accent "I like your shirt". Ryan was rather chuffed.
We then got our rental car and drove to the resort. Had a nice surprise as we'd originally booked the studio room, but we received a free upgrade to a one bedroom apartment. This resort also has a pool and free putt putt golf so its pretty awesome, considering its only $60 a night. By the time we arrived it was around 2am so went straight to bed.
The king bed was so comfortable, we didn't wake up until 10am and immediately went in search of breakfast. Went to Denny's Diner which is a chain, but we were pleasantly surprised. It was clean, good service (had a lovely woman named Shawna serve us) and breakfast was yummy and cheap PLUS free coffee refills. It was then time for outlet shopping! We headed to the Premium Outlets - just one of many in the area - and shopped for a very long time. It was about twice the size of DFO and many brands which are generally expensive in Australia, but here were a more reasonable price. Ryan managed to find jeans and shoes, while I found some bags and tops. Once we were shopped out we drove to Walmart to grab some groceries. Here the Walmart is a Super Walmart so its extra big. The homewares side of stuff is cheap, but it really is just a huge warehouse of stuff, which we have come to see America is all about. Many of the people we saw in there were not the all powerful Americans you see on TV, they were more like trailer trash.
Today the bed really made its point, we slept through our 7.30am alarm and didn't wake up until 9. Quickly got ready and headed off the Kennedy Space Centre at Cape Canaveral. Many things were included in the ticket so we started our experience with a bus tour which took us from the Visitor Complex to see the NASA headquarters, launching pads and Apollo Saturn 5 Rocket. Saw some cool things like the actual suits worn by famous astronauts, rocks from the moon, and of course the Saturn 5 rocket which was massive. Also went in a take off simulator which was exciting and watched an IMAX movie about the international space station. Ryan fell asleep but that's OK because I did too haha. Florida is famous for key lime pie so we made a beeline for a highly rated local bakery and ate a slice of citrus key lime pie which was delicious. Afterwards we battled peak hour traffic to an Old Navy outlet to see just how cheap things could get.
