Soo no phone reception eh, kinda sucks. I need my Internet fix.
Yesterday saw Christelle and I on the road from Katherine heading to
Kununara. There are a few national parks along the way and firstly as
I was trying to slow the whole pace of the trip down and secondly as
Christelle is very thorough in her desire to see everything we ended
up taking most of the walks through them (I know Gregorys NP was one
of them, can't remember the others). Id hoped i had stopped the red
dust coming into the car but after doing 100km on a bit of dirt the
stuff in the back was heavily coated, makes food fun! Camped in a rest
area on the side of the road with a few backpackers and lots of grey
nomads. One of them was obviously quite deaf as he was watching a DVD
at serious levels until 10pm.
This morning we did a few more walks, tried to eat all our fruit ala
spirit of Tasmania before crossing into WA (they even made me throw
out my bobab fruit, picked up 5km from the border) and then drove into
Kunanara. Bought some more food, payed $1.6/l for fuel (ouch) and then
drove on towards the bungle bungles. Stopped at a caravan park and had
a shower for $3 (value) and then drove on towards the park. I hadn't
realized but somewhere in wiring the stereo up something has gone
wrong as I have no night driving lights in the dash and the radio
doesn't work : ( Also Im now 2 hrs behind Sydney; and it's getting
dark a lot earlier than in the NT. Weather is still very warm (38C in
the car when we driving, fridge is maxing it's self out) but at least
at night it's cooling down.

Greetings from wintry Jozi, Ryan!
ReplyDeleteI applaud your fortitude in carrying onwards with the journey so soon. Had I been you I would have spent at least a week sleeping off the jet lag in Darwin before heading on!
And btw, we expect a detailed commentary on the journey from Kununurra (admire my spelling, please, had to check it 3 times on the map!)as we're considering doing the stretch from Ku .. there to Derby next year with your folks and the Reuvers. Two weeks, via Purnululu (what's it with 'u's in names in that part of the world?) to see the Bungle Bungles, Geikei Gorge and Tunnel Creek.
We're thinking of doing the horizontal waterfall after your folks have headed back east, then trundling down the WA coast past the Karinjini, Ningaloo Reef etc. Another 3 weeks on that part of the trip.
So detailed commentary please!
And Dima misses you. The day after you'd left he came with me into your bedroom, sniffed the bed carefully, sighed heavily, lay down on the carpet and went to sleep.
Poor abandoned puppy!
Enjoy the travels
