So where were we? Thats right I was driving around Australia and you were reading from the comfort of your own home...
So I managed to repair my phone to a semi usable state, for a day at least, but it is back to its unusable best so I need real internet for updates.
My last post left Tom, Stefano and I somewhere past Mt Gambia, heading towards Adelaide. We stopped at a caravan park to check prices somewhere outside of Adelaide, the standard $30 fair, but the caravan park owners warned us of the dangers of camping on the side of the road, the cost of a fine, and the social and personal health benefits of staying at a caravan park. Alas, we drove on to somewhere in the Barosa valley and found a nice dirt road to camp the night. It rained heavily in the night and the weather was very cold, but the morning broke with sunshine and things soon warmed up a little. As we were in the Barosa, we decided to spend the morning driving around sampling the sights, coffee and wines of the area. Enjoyable.
Later in the afternoon we drove on to Adelaide central where we first found some much needed internet, some grocery shopping, and then on to some hostel accommodation. Tom was sadly leaving us the next morning, so we headed into the city that night for some celebrations, but Adelaide really doesn't do celebrating on a Sunday night. Back to bed at only 12 o'clock.
The next morning Tom rose early to catch his flight, I rose early to move the car into a real parking spot that wouldn't get me fined, and Stefano slept on. Spent the morning cleaning the car and repairing Dads tent. The canvas/plastic cover that is used for driving/when the tent is down had ripped at three of the corners. Three needles later and lots of gaffa tape and things were uglier but hopefully more secure. The arvo was spent walking around town and chilling out in the hostel. Again not much happening at night.
Tuesday rose with free pancakes at the hostel. Spent more time cleaning the car in the mrning, then around lunch time we took advantage of the free bikes that are provided by the South Australian government and spent the day cycling to the beach and then back to town. It was nice to enjoy some sunny weather but my bottom did not appreciate all the cycling. As I will be flying back to the family for a week Stefano is desperately looking around for a lift to either Alice or Perth. Although we get along quite well most of the time some things have started to annoy me (just as I'm sure some things I do annoy him). I am perpetually reminded how the German way is better, or how it would never be done like that in Germany (thank god for that!). So although it is sad that we are splitting up, perhaps we both need a change of travelling partners.
