Had a decent enough nights sleep considering the noise from the rowdy neighbours. We hoped for better camping somewhere else so we drove furher into the park. At some point the road forked and we took the 4wd only track. When they said 4wd they really meant it as the road was badly eroded and some of the inclines were enough to get my nerves buzzing. The car managed well enough and we were soon on our way out of the park as there was no basically no camping to be had. We then drove to Mt Samaria and crossed the entire park looking for a camp site but everything was taken. On the very edge of the park we managed to find some improptu camping on the side of the road and that's where we settled. So basically we had lots of driving, nice scenery, but a stressful way to try and camp.
The next morning we planned to head further north into the highlands of Victoria to try and find even more remote camping as far away from Melbourne as possible. However, at about 2pm I had a call from a friend, Tom, who I had been trying to get in touch with since we left Tassie. He was planning on travelling with me and Stefano along the great ocean road from Melbourne to Adelaide, but as it turned out he had to be back in Sydney in a weeks time and he could start the trip the next day. We wanted as much time as possible to enjoy the drive along the great ocean road so instead of driving north even further into Vic we turned around and sped back to Melbourne (we were at this point about 300km away).
Once we arrived back in Melbourne we called Tom and found he was already out in the city. Not having showered in 3 days we tried to think of any place you could use a public shower and we ended up at the beach near St Kilda in the public toilets using the non-locking showers to try and remove our 'manly' odour. After freshening up we drove to the apartment that Tom was house sitting at, dumped the car and headed into the city to sample Melbournes night life. The following morning we didn't do much but sleep in, have breakfast and try and pack and organize the car to fit another person. At around 12 we started the drive along the great ocean road (GOR). First was bells beach, cape ottway and then through Apollo Bay where we have driven into the bush and camped somewhere next to the road. We shall see how three people in a rather small tent works out.
