Day 21/22

Im plugged in and charging. Not only do I have very slow internet access but a powerpoint to go with it. But I'm ahead of myself.
Yesterday woke in Mt William National Park to more rain and wind. After breakfast the best thing to do was drive, so we did. First stop was Waterhouse Point Conservation Area where for the first time four wheel drive power was needed. The sun was peeking out but the wind was still blustering so we drove on through to Launceston.
Coming in to Launceston from the North East was a bit of a shock; there were tree lined streets and majestic old manors peering down on the town from the hills. A real introduction to what is really a very beautiful town. There is still a lot of the old architecture spread around the place, from the old houses on the hill to churches and warehouses in the centre of town. Maybe a bit of welcome relief from endless forestry plantations? We drove around Launceston for a little while and then searched out a caravan park for a shower (first in 3 days for someone who sweats at the mention of heat).
That night it rained quite heavily and the tent got another 'cleaning'. Packing everything up we realised we were now tarpaulin less; the day before the tarp was left on the roof rack to dry and somewhere along the way it decided to disembark for a longer stay. Dad if you are reading this you will need a new tarp...
After breakfast we headed into the city centre for a better look. Spent most of the morning walking around looking for somewhere to buy a new tarp as well as new engine oil/oil filter for the car as its 5000km service interval had come and gone.
After lunch we drove North out of Launceston onto the highway for about 30 minutes and then took a random offroad to a random town. After scouting various streets we settled on a gravel driveway leading onto four vacant plots of land. Out came the tools and after sufficiently covering myself and Stefano in oil so as to make gripping anything impossible we were ready to tackle the job. Surprisingly everything worked out smoothly and now the Patrol has new oil for the next 5000k's. And we only managed to spill one and a half litres onto the driveway.
From our open air garage we drove further north to another caravan park (two in two days I hear you say... but we were well lubricated in oil). Unfortunately the caravan park was not so nice and neither was the owner so we drove back to the bridge to cross the Tamar river and on to the town of Beauty Point. $29 gets you a hot shower, a power point and water but not much of a kitchen. Sausages on the bbq again, as usual.
Still, its not raining.
