Day 12 opened to more rain and wind. Breakfast was cereal hudled under the tent. Drove out of Trial Harbour to Queenstown (a mining town, not the nicest place in Tas), then on to a random little place called Pine Tier Lagoon. We saw a sign saying pine Tier Lagoon and thought why not. Turned out to be a really nice lake in a valley, surrounded by bush. When we arrived we were the only people about but the wind was still howling and no sun. We were tempted to start a fire but thought better of it extreme winds. Opened the tent, sleeping bags and mattress to the wind to try and dry them off. Around 5 o'clock an old bloke in a van rattled in and asked of he could take some of our firewood. Got talking and he said there was a route over to the other side of the lake that was a lot more protected from the wind. We followed him over and camped around someones perfectly set up campsite; stone walled fireplace, sink, log benches all in the middle
of no where. Was a great night with a cheery fire and someone interesting to burn the evening away.
The next morning we woke to the sound of the old bloke flicking away with his fly fishing rod. He was fishing his way around Tas for 2 months. We wished him lucky fishing and drove on our way to New Norfolk for food, fuel and the first mobile reception in 3 days. From there we drove west Mount Field National Park in search of a shower but when we arrived the weather was freezing and rainy so we gave up on the idea of doing much walking. The shit weather had been blowing in from the west for a week now so we chose to drive to the east coast in the hope of some sunshine. First stop Hobart. It was 5pm on a Saturday but the town was basically shut down. Walked around the CBD and dock area for an hour then back to the car and out of Hobart for somewhere to camp/finally shower. Ended up in a caravan park near the town of Richmond. First thing into the shower and there is an electronic timer with 15 displayed on it, presumably to limit your shower experince to 15 minutes. Pressed the go button and the timer flashes on to 5 minutes

and begins counting down. All thoughts of a deliciously long relaxing shower evaporate in the frantic rush to be shaved, washed and conditioned in 5 minutes. The timer reaches 0 and the hot water cuts off, and the timer returns to 15... 15 seconds that is. 15 seconds later another 5 minutes appears, but of course by then I'm already done...
